Doctor Who

Human Nature/Family of Blood

By: Paul Cornell

These  episodes are a two episodes, but they kind of blend together into one episode. I love this episode because you get some insight on how the Doctor really feel about himself. The Doctor either has to choose between love and having a family or being a Time Lord and saving worlds.
In this episode turns human while hiding from aliens. His human self, John Smith, is in the care of Martha, his companion. In this John Smith falls in love with his colleague, Joan Redfern. Human Nature/Family of Blood takes place shortly after Rose leaving, so you can imagine how painful it was to wacth the Doctor (Jonh Smith) fall in love again. I love that he is happy, but, to be honest, whenever the Doctor is in love you know something bad will happen. The aliens have found him and messed everything up. Martha realizes this and struggled to find his Time Lord essence, which is kept in a pocket wacth. You then realize a boy stole it, and at first I hated him! The boy treated it like it was his own! I was furious. The aliens found the Doctor (John Smith) and he totally freaked out. He has a right to, I mean he just found out his whole life is a lie, I would freak out too. The boy then returned and it is revealed he was told to protect the wacth til the right time, which was then. The Doctor then had an gaigactic decision, to make, be the Doctor or John Smith. He remembered what it was like to be the Doctor, painfully alone and in emotional distress, but he would also be the savior of millions of worlds. But if he stayed John Smith all of that would go away, he would not be saving anyone, instead he could live a full and happy life. This is something we never see, the Doctor does not know what to do. We always see the Doctor in distress, but we always know he will try to save people if it is an option. But this is not the Doctor, it is John Smith and he is torn between being a lonely savior or an loved ordinary man. But he finally decided to be the Doctor, the lonely savior, again. This, to me, was heartbreaking; yes, I loved when the Doctor came back, but this was his shot at a second true love after Rose. But in the end I think he obviously made the right choice, and probably most people felt the same way, although some might felt differently, and that's cool.
